Edward Bevan (bishop)

The Rt Rev Edward Latham Bevan [1], DD, MA (1861 - 1934) was the inaugural Bishop of Swansea and Brecon from 1923[2] until his death on 2 February 1934.[3]

Born in Weymouth on 27 October 1861[4] he was educated at Hertford College, Oxford[5] and ordained in 1886.[6]

He began his career with a curacy [7] at Holy Trinity, Weymouth [8] after which he was Chaplain [9] of the Gordon’ Home for Boys[10] until 1907 when he became Archdeacon of Brecon. He was first elevated to the Episcopate as the Suffragan Bishop of Swansea in 1915[11] before becoming its full Diocesan eight years later.[12]
